Long overdue, the Youth affairs committee of Dar-es-salaam Jamaat launched an ambitious project of constructing a gym on top of the imambara on the 3rd floor. In April of 2012, the gym opened its doors to both gents and ladies with a fanfare.

After 12 months of hard work and initiative, the chairman of the youth’s committee, Shane-Abbas Jessa and his committee, successfully launched a fully equipped gym with modern up to date facilities.

Initially designed to be a functional gym facility, Hayaat fitness center, has blossomed into a multi purpose center offering, besides a regular gym, Aerobics, Tae Bo and Yoga classes throughout the year. The center has also incorporated the 4th floor into a badminton court with future plans to expand into basketball and tennis court.

The fitness center has become a hub for youths, children and adults spending their evenings enjoying quality time with their children and friends playing table tennis, foosball, pool and carom besides the above mentioned activities.

Hayaat Fitness Center’s progressive general manager Mr. Zahir Somji is on a crusade to bring awareness within the community of the advantages of a healthy lifestyle including regular vigorous exercise, healthy diet and avoidance of harmful habits.  Through his regular up dates via mass e-mail to the entire community, Zahir has raised awareness through his probing questions of how our norms, like serving oily food for tabarruk while living in a tropical country rife with fresh fruit and juice, are not conducive to our health.

Shirazbhai Walji, the president of Dar-es-salaam Jamaat, was ecstatic about this project and has encouraged all activities promoting the health of youths, ladies and seniors besides the general public. Kudos to the managing committee for a very pro-active approach to health!
