SAHEEFA AL-SAJJADIYYA
What is Saheefa al Sajjadiyya?
Saheefa al-Sajjadiyya, or “the scripture of al-Sajjad” is a book of supplications and whispered prayers composed by the 4th Holy Imam, Ali ibn Husayn, Zayn al-Abideen (as), the great grandson of the Holy prophet Muhammad Mustafa (saww).
A seminal work in early Islamic spirituality, the book is one of the oldest prayer manuals in Islamic sources. The importance of the Saheefa can be gauged from the fact that it is compared to the other holy scripts, namely, the Injeel and/or Zabur of Ali Muhammad or the Ukhtul Qur’an (sister of Qur’an), because like Injeel (Gospel) it is a book of moral advices and wisdom, like Zabur it is a collection of psalms and rhythmic recitations and a book of guidance like the Holy Qur’an; the Holy scriptures that were revealed on Prophet Isa (as), Prophet Dawood (as) and Prophet Muhammad (saww), respectively. Saheefa al-Sajjadiyya is also known as Saheefa al-Kamila indicating it’s completeness.
