MUNAJAAT ash-SHAAKKEEN (MUNAJAT OF THE COMPLAINERS)
In this world many things happen; some of them are good while some seem to be bad but in reality they are good for us. But due to our lack of insight we complain about them.
Since Allah (swt) is just, He never does any bad to His creation. So when things don’t look good, we rely on Allah (swt) {His wisdom}, we submit ourselves totally to Him and believe in His strength and power then we understand that there is always good hidden in problems.
The least (or rather the best) is that our sins are forgiven. So if everything is good then what is Imam complaining about? While teaching us not to complain about the minor drawbacks of the dunya, Imam draws our attention to four things
that we should complain about, namely:
1.إلهِي إليْكَ أَشْكُو نَفْسا – “O my Lord, I complain to You about the nafs, (because)
بِالسُّوءِ أَمَّارَةً. 2 – it pushes me strongly towards (fulfilling) evil desires only/doing evil”.
وَشَيْطانَاً يَغْوِينِي إلهِي أَشْكُو إلَيْكَ عَدُوّاً يُضِلُّنِي .3 – “My Lord I complain to you of an enemy (frommankind eg: friends, relatives, ruler, etc) who deviates me (takes me to the path that leads me away from You, O my Lord; doesn’t want good for me in the akhiraah) and of the satan who is deceiving me”.
4. إلهِي إلَيْكَ أَشْكُو قَلْبَاً قاسِياً مَعَ الْوَسْواسِ مُتَقَلِّباً – “O my Lord, I complain to You of qaswat ul qalb(hardening of the heart) turned this way and that with tempting thoughts” – this is very devastating to the human. It neither leaves any mercy in the heart, nor does it leave any connections with Allah (swt) because it is caused by disobeying Allah (swt) continuously. At this stage the heart is not receptive to any guidance.
