Camper Diary
Coming soon!
Mentor Diary
The morning started as usual with waking up for Fajr, but due to the excursion to Stone Town the previous day, namaaz arrangements were made in the camper’s rooms. After this, the campers were allowed to sleep in until 8:30 for breakfast. It was a good choice as everyone was well rested and most campers woke up right before breakfast, ready for the day.
The lessons started at 9:00, beginning with Keystone Habits by Dr. Kamal Sherrif, drugs by Mohamedabbas Khaki, an excursion with Ali Jawad and the young leaders, and optimism with Sheikh Shirazi, followed by a break. Once this was finished everyone went for afternoon salah, were Sheikh Shirazi gave a talk about unity.
Then the campers had lunch where they talked with one another, and got a chance to meet their friends from the other element groups. We had also seen a dolphin/whale (unsure of which) in the water which made everyone rush down to see them come out of the water. Afterwards, everyone went to their Qur’an classes. Mashallah everyone had good recitation, and some mentors finished their pending salah assessments.
After this the campers went into their activities: the seniors starting with a scavenger hunt and the juniors started in the pool and got a chance to design their own game. The seniors showed more teamwork and collaboration then the earlier days, and were much more competitive and engaging then before. Tensions were high after the game, so a football match was held and then the day ended with being in the pool. The juniors had fun times all around, creating their own unique game, swimming and were super enthusiastic about the scavenger hunt.
The campers then washed up and went for Maghribain salaam. Once namaaz and Ziyarat were finished, the campers had a small session with Sheikh Zishan. Everyone helped each other out, with those campers who knew, teaching those who didn’t. A few campers took leadership roles and taught amazingly. After this we ate dinner then slept.
The campers are improving day by day; in fact during the PDT session, I have seen a considerable boost of confidence in the campers. I have witnessed one of them grow from wanting to fit in and doing as others, to finding his own path. He realized that he doesn’t have to have the approval of others and can do what he feels is right. All the campers have come to prayers without any struggle, save for a few exceptions like fajr where everyone was tired today from the excursion prior!
